Burnside back in the days when Fat Possum was still a good interesting label , and has slow songs as well like the I NEED MY BABY or SWEETEST HYMNS the flip side of the album is dominated by the gospel music of the early and mid 50’s THE STAPLE SINGERS the Peacock catalogue inspired them to do such a recording..invited a gospel choir into the studio and start recording I FEE GUILTY is a fine example of very strange gospel and raw rhythm n blues .. sung by sinners for the outcast

Die JUKE JOINT PIMPS treffen auf ihren Alter Ego THE GOSPEL PIMPS und machen ein album das vor irrsinn und und spielfreude nur so strozt , nicht nur auf diesem album sondern auch live schlüpft die band in ihre 2 kostüme.. zuerst wilder unkontrolierter von whisky und schweiss triefender early 50’s chicago rhythm n blues dann in mid 50’s Louisiana Gospel soul rockin rhythms mit chor und römisch katolischen klamoten.

Die studio arbeiten sind ähnlich geloffen, sie haben einen gospel chor ins studio eingeladen und ab giengs, alles live eingespielt und den blues power richtig wirken gelassen fängt die scheibe mit EAT FOR ME mit einem song an der R.L. Burnside hätte schreiben können als seine platten auf fat possum rauskamen damals als es noch ein inovativ gutes label war, auf dem album finden sich auch viele slow songs wie I NEED MY BABY oder SWEETEST HYMNS die 2te seite ist dann merheitlich vom Gospel inspiriert, bands wie the STAPLE SINGERS oder das fantastische Peacock platen label hat die gospel pimps vorallem beieinflusst und so ist ein durchs band weg intressantes und mitreissendes album entstanden.. gesungen von sündern für für sunder und aussenseiter
